I am writing to implement one of the recommendations of the recent Task Force on 
Gender Equity.  The recommendation is that each fall your faculty be informed 
of the average salaries by rank in your department.  This recommended action 
grew out of many individual interviews by the Task Force which found that 
faculty are poorly informed and have misconceptions about the salary of 
their peers, which can lead to unnecessary concerns.

The nine-month base salary data for ladder rank faculty in your department, 
as of September 4, 2002, is attached as an excel document.  
I therefore request that you forward to all of your ladder-rank faculty 
a copy of this email with the attached data.  I would be pleased
