CSE2 - Computers & Society
Units: 4
Course Objectives: This course will provide a perspective for thinking critically
about the uses of computer technology in society. It is not a computer literacy
course; while computer lab will involve some basic programs, it will not provide
computer-use skills useful for a computer related job.
Course Description: This course will be of interest to three kinds of peopleThose
who will be involved in the design and implementation of computer technology;
those who will use computer technology; and those who will in one way or
another be affected by computer technology. In short, everybody.
Format: 3 hours of lecture per week, 3 hours of computer lab, and 6 hours of
outside preparation.
Prerequisites: None.

Laboratory work: A lab of Mac personal computers will be used for activities ranging
from simple Email communication, to access to Internet resources. We will
also build several ``shared electronic artifacts,'' electronic files for
resources found as the course progresses.
Offered: One quarter per year.
