CSE132A – Database System Principles

Units: 4

Course Objectives:

Course Description:
Basic concepts of databases, including data modeling, relation databases, query languages, optimization, dependencies, schema design, and concurrency control. Exposure to one or several commerical database systems. Advanced topics such as deductive and object-oriented databases, time allowing.

Format:
3 hours of lecture per week, occasional 1 hour sections and review sessions, 4 hours of lab and 4 hours of outside preparation.

Prerequisites:
CSE 100 or Math 176

Other restrictions:
Majors only.

Programming assignments and a term project.

Offered:
One quarter per year.
