Course Objectives:
The Slide Rule: The Original Mind-Powered/Mind-Empowering Handheld Computer;
Brief Hisotry of Digital Computers; Neural Networks as Models of the Mind; The Web as a Library;
The Abacus, Sector, and Slide Rule. Subtitle: Computing before Computers; Digital Typography;
Game Theory and Computer Science
Course Description:
A seminar providing an overview or a topic of current research interest
to the instructor. The goal is to present a specialized topic in computer science and
engineering to students.
Format:
1.5 hours of lecture per week on Wednesdays, 9:00 - 10:50 am, APM 2444.
First 5 Wednesdays of the quarter.
Prerequisites:
Although this class is open to all majors, enrollment priority is given to
freshman students.
Other restrictions:
Enrollment limit is set at 25. Enrollments are also staggered for this
class - only a few students from Senior, Junior, and Sophomore class levels will be allowed
to enroll into this class. Freshman students will then be able to enroll until this class is full.
