Syllabus

The first half of the class will concentrate on new Internet protocols. We will discuss CIDR and IP addressing, Policy Routing and BGP, Multicasting (DVMRP, CBT, MOSPF, and PIM), Mobility, Quality of Service and IPv6.

The second half of the class will discuss methods to make protocols more efficient. I will talk about techniques for reducing data movement, techniques for building fast timers, techniques for fast lookups, techniques for fast firewall implementations, streamlining TCP, and other miscellaneous tricks and techniques.
